CHICAGO (Recommendations from Nate Berkus)

For great lines mixed with vintage goods and hard-to-find denim, APARTMENT NUMBER 9 (1804 N. Damen Avenue) is a "Bucktown gem," says Berkus, whose recent purchases there include a Michael Kors sweater, Paper Denimn & Cloth jeans and a vintage belt and T-shirt. He especially appreciates the attentive service of the owners - sisters Sarah and Amy Blessing - who contact him when new items arrive that they believe he'll like. With almost 500 watches in stock on a normal day, the CHICAGO WATCH CENTER (21 N. Wabash Avenue) is an excellent resource for both old and new timepieces. "I've been going there for about ten years," says Berkus. An avid runner, he is also frequently found in the pro shop at the EAST BANK CLUB (500 N. Kingsbury Street), which has a broad selection of workout clothes and running shoes. He particularly likes the line that bears the club logo. "It's really well made," he says. Anyone who loves sunglasses should shop at GLASSES LTD. (49 E. Oak Street), advises Berkus. With a choice of more than 2,500 pairs, this emporium has nearly enough styles to satisfy the sunglasses "fetish" that Berkus admits to having. The store's owners, Janean and Bernie Winitz, enjoy going the extra mile for their customers," he says. "Once, when I was in Milan, I saw a pair of Persol aviator sunglasses that I really wanted. I was sure Janean and Bernie would be able to find them for me when I got back." Needless to say, they did.
