Things Matter

_ Fall 2012 is finally here, bringing with it two HUGELY exciting moments for me: my book launch and the arrival of my product line into Target stores nationwide! I've been talking about both for weeks but what you might not have known is that I spent the past year and a half writing The Things That Matter and designing every aspect of each of the products in the line to share with you. The fact that now you can thumb through pages and stroll through the aisles is almost too much for me to handle! I can't wait to hear your feedback on all of it, especially my house on fire question in the book. I asked Maya Angelou, Julianne Moore and a few other people I admire most to answer that very question. I wanted to know, "if your house caught fire and you could make it out the door with just one item, what would it be? I'm not looking for people and pets here.  That goes without saying. I want to know the item, object or find that you'd say holds that special place in your heart." I loved what they had to say. There were playbooks, art and artifacts topping their lists. Attached is a photo of mine. It's the woven Joshua tree photos that my late partner, Fernando Bengoechea, wove with his own two hands. Even if I watched him for hours weaving one of these, I still couldn't figure out how he did it. If the house caught fire, I'd hope to have enough time to rip these off the wall and haul them out the door. I can’t imagine my home, my life, without them. Now that I've shown you mine, you show me yours. Facebook and tweet me your house on fire object. Use the hashtag #ThingsMatter so I can keep an eye out for it.
