Neutrals are always in style. But when it came to the “50 shades of brown” at work in the Brown family’s home… well, we’ll call it too much of a good thing.
When Meg and Chris called for Nate and Jeremiah’s help, they were hoping for our fearless designers to turn their home’s dreary downstairs into a haven that matched their youthful energy.
And of course, this episode of Nate & Jeremiah By Design on TLC did not disappoint. We saw Southern charm and modern updates come together on a limited budget, to create a look that the Browns called “our style, but better.”
But before we get into that, let’s revisit the “before”…
How’d they do it all? To start, they used an inspired paint choice to give the kitchen a new lease on life.
As Artistic Advisor at LG Studio, Nate is constantly giving advice about kitchen renovation and his #1 SAVE VS SPLURGE tip? Replacing cabinets can be costly so instead, repaint them! Which is what Nate and Jeremiah opted for here, restoring and upgrading the current ones by reimagining them in a stylish Benjamin Moore blue (Newburyport Blue, to be exact).
As for the splurge? Invest in the best appliances you can afford. Like these high design, high performance appliances from LG Studio (that Nate helped design!).
To keep that brightness going, they replaced the muddy-toned granite countertops with white quartz that’s primed to bounce and reflect the room’s natural light.
And finally, they wiped out the paneled fluorescent lighting and replaced it with inexpensive beadboard, molding, and can-lights. Maximum glow, maximum texture but so much easier on the eye.
