We’re going to let you in on a little secret: summer decorating doesn’t have to mean a massive rehaul of your space. But there are certain styles that lend themselves extremely well to summer updates. Like our current favorite accent: rust accessories.
Just like adding metallics to a mix adds an extra layer to a room, rust-hued pieces bring some bite everywhere they go. They make whites appear cleaner and more vibrant, bright colors less in-your-face, and they add a rich, delicious extra dimension to a scene of neutrals.
Case in point – the photo at left, snapped at Nate’s luncheon in LA. Don’t the rust tones on the pillows, and of the hurricanes, just add a beautiful depth to the scene? Check out a couple more perfect examples, and how to steal the look…
RUST + NEUTRALS
Here, those same hurricanes are paired with another rust-accented piece, the painted bowls planted with succulents. The rich tone play up the whites and neutrals on the table, and the color helps draw your eye to an unexpected moment – the rust-tipped points of the plant. The kind of gorgeous detail that pieces in any other color would not have brought out.
RUST + BRIGHTS
We spotted this stunner on Instagram and flipped for what a perfect job Beverly Hills hairstylist @meneses75 did for a Cinco de Mayo party. The bright colors and to-die-for cactus glasses set an incredibly fun backdrop, but the painted bowls-as-vases moment, with that hint of deep rust adds some very chic tension.
